Potential STARS SLC students

Who Should Apply

The NCSU STARS Student Leadership Corps is open to students of North Carolina State University at all academic levels. You don't need to have the highest GPA or standardized test scores to be a good match for this scholarship. We're looking for students who want to participate in dynamic research, service, internship, or mentoring projects. In addition to the individual project, STARS students work together on activities that aim to broaden the diversity of students studying computer science.

What STARS Students Get

As a STARS student, you will develop leadership skills, be trained as a mentor, receive personalized mentoring, and get the opportunity to work on an exciting research, service, internship, or outreach project of your choice. You will network with students at other colleges in the southeast such as Auburn, Florida State, Florida A&M, Georgia Tech, North Carolina A&T, UNC Charlotte, and many more. As a STARS Student, you will receive a stipend and will be invited to attend an expenses-paid orientation workshop this summer.

What STARS Students Contribute

STARS students work together on group projects aimed at broadening participation in computing. As a member of the STARS Student Leadership Corps, you will also complete an individual research, service, internship, or outreach project of your choice over the academic year. You will work with the program coordinator to create your project proposal and finalize it in the beginning of Fall semester.

How To Apply

Applicants should have completed or be enrolling in an introductory Computer Science course during the Fall 2009 - Spring 2010 school year. You must be graduating in Spring 2010 or later. There is no specific academic requirement; we encourage all interested students to apply. If you are interested in joining STARS for the upcoming academic year, please fill out the STARS SLC application and email it to by April 17.
